Dr Rao Fu is a dual-qualified pain physician and specialist anaesthetist, with a passion for improving patient outcomes through patient centred management strategies. He graduated from the University of Otago in 2011 with a double degree in Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and a Bachelor of Medical Sciences with First Class Honours. His advanced training includes fellowships at Wellington Hospital, Alfred Hospital, and Pain Matrix Geelong. He is a level 3 endorsee of the Procedures Endorsement Programme, endorsed by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, ensuring high-quality patient selection and delivery of minimally invasive pain procedures.
He is actively involved in research and medical education with the Faculty of Pain Medicine. His research interests include opioid optimisation, as well as advancing medical education. To further complement the practice of pain medicine, he is currently completing a postgraduate diploma in sports medicine
With a strong commitment to a multidisciplinary approach, Dr Fu specialises in minimally invasive procedures to enhance recovery and improve function. He has a particular interest in regional anaesthesia for acute pain management. Believing in the importance of education and collaboration, he works closely with patients and their families to develop personalised treatment plans that optimise function while effectively managing pain.
